Land Acknowledgement


I’d like to introduce my background as a settler. I am of Chinese, Jamaican and Lithuanian decent and a guest here in Mohkinstsis on Treaty 7 territory, which is the traditional territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Pikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakode Nations, as well as the Metis Nation (Region 3) currently referred to as Calgary of which I am privileged to call home. I honour the Indigenous Peoples of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Pikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakode Nations and the Metis Region 3 who are and were the original stewards of these sacred lands.


I do land acknowledgement because it is an important part of truth and reconciliation, to dismantle unconscious biases and microaggressions as well as educate my network to spread the possibility for a better future, to give back what shouldn’t have been taken away and to adopt ways of life that shouldn’t have been outlawed.


From the waters to the north, the west, and the east, I acknowledge the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of Turtle Island. Finally, yet importantly, I commit to actively continue to educate myself on Canada’s real history.
